I have a 1920s murder mystery weeked next Saturday and my character is “a famous researcher and owner of a pharmaceuticals company”

Why don’t you do from the angle that as a researcher you took it personally and did the research yourself. Say you personally test all the drugs. Some of them numerous times. You can be twitchy and weird. It could be funny.
